Carcioromantic is an umbrella term used to describe an individual who experiences romantic attraction, whether strongly or weakly, but feels a strong sense of repulsion or disgust upon doing so. They cannot help and control the feeling, thus feeling trapped or confined in the feeling. This discomfort is typically not directed toward the person they are attracted to, but rather toward the experience of romantic attraction itself.
Individuals who identify as carcioromantic can still engage in romantic relationships, however they have no interest in doing romantic activities. Thus they only date people whom they feel neutrally towards. They may or may not feel uncomfortable consuming romance-related content.
Coining and Etymology[]
Carcio itself isnt a word, however carci- is a root that comes from the latin word carcer ; meaning prison or confinement. This corresponds to feeling trapped by romantic attraction. This term was coined by Fandom user rusalkills.
Related Terms[]
This term is similar to apothiromantic, and dreadromantic, as all three labels refer to a negative feeling upon feeling romantic attraction. However, carcioromantic focuses on the feeling of being trapped by romance, while apothiromantic focuses on disgust and repulsion. Dreadromantic people also feel anxiety over romance, which is different as well.
