Lyciromantic (also called Recipromantic) is a romantic orientation on the aromantic spectrum. It is a term for someone who does not experience romantic attraction unless they believe that the other individual is romantically attracted to them first.
Experiences a lyciromantic / recipromantic may relate to include (but are not limited to):
- Being in a platonic relationship with somebody, and after having suspicions that they may be romantically attracted to you, start to develop romantic feelings for them
- Uncertainty about one's attraction to another if the other person's attraction to one is unknown
- Anxiety or hesitation without sufficient information of the other person's feelings
Of course, not everyone in this category goes through these examples, and these examples aren't everything that somebody in this category could relate to.
The sexual counterpart of lyciromantic / recipromantic is lycisexual / reciprosexual.
The "opposite" of lyciromantic / recipromantic is lithromantic.
History[]
Sometime before or in 2016, lycriomantic (under the name recipromantic) was coined by a deactivated Tumblr user. Before deactivation, they decided they didn't want people to use their term anymore. On July 6th, 2016, pride-color-schemes created two flags for lyciromantic.[1]
On December 11th, 2020, kyanitedragon made an alternative flag for lyciromantic.[2]
The current name, lyciromantic, was coined on July 7th (2022) by 0RCH3STR4B13S.[3]
